JOB TITLE: Application Developer - Intermediate LOCATION: Geisinger Health Plan, Hughes DEPARTMENT: Information Technology WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time JOB SUMMARY: Reviews, analyzes, modifies, creates, debugs, assists in design, and tests applications using modern development methodologies and tools. Provides key insight in design and participates in application architecture discussions. Required to maintain continuing education on the ever changing web development tool sets. Is a key player on a multidisciplinary team and will engage in all aspects of the application development life-cycle as needed for each project to be successful. Works directly with the business to ensure the project is meeting the business needs. Is expected to be a self starter and work with minimal supervision. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *Understands assigned tasks and ask for clarification when necessary. *Works with other technical staff to complete assignments. *Implements in code and document all system changes based on assignments and timelines. *Follows department coding and user interface guidelines. *Provides code review, testing, debugging, technical documentation, general testing instructions, assistance in go-live planning, assistance in go-live moves, and post-live support. *Communicates any and all progress, roadblocks, issues to the team and management in a timely manner. *Provides training and documentation to team members on new development assignments. *Assists with training of new staff members. Performs other duties as required or assigned. *Denotes essential functions. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates attention to detail and the ability to problem solve through problem analysis.
Demonstrates familiarity with relational database and web development concepts.
Demonstrates the ability to develop effort estimates for tasks within projects.
Demonstrates the ability to learn independently. Must be able to handle on-call situations and be available 24 hours a day while serving on-call.
Demonstrates excellent documentation and communication skills.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in computer or information science required. Minimum of four years of application development experience required.
Eight years of demonstrated professional success in the area of application development using the specific team technology stack may be considered in lieu of degree/experience requirement.
Requires a good understanding with at least 2 years professional experience in database structure and design and in application development for web, mobile and/or form based platforms.
General knowledge of modern programming concepts including: object oriented programming, multi-tier application architecture, and unit testing required.
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree
Preferred Education: WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional travel to different buildings. Mostly sedentary work interacting with computers and people. Requires ability to perform visual inspection and lifting less than 10 pounds.
