Assistant/Associate Professor for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
Touro University of California, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Touro University of California seeks a motivated educator dedicated to supporting and developing the next generation of diagnostic medical sonographers. This is a rewarding opportunity to teach, mentor, and guide students through didactic instruction, laboratory experiences, clinical precepting, and interdisciplinary education while also contributing to the broader academic and service mission of the University. The successful candidate will help shape and implement the DMS curriculum, serve as an instructional leader, and inspire students to enter the field with skill and enthusiasm.
With a strong commitment to work-life balance, the position also provides one day per week for clinical practice, supporting continued professional growth alongside teaching responsibilities. This role is based on Touro's scenic Vallejo campus in the beautiful Bay Area.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography programat Touro University of California integrates foundational knowledge in the sciences and medical imaging with clinical experiences under the supervision of professional sonographers. This full-time, lockstep, five-semester (22-month) program provides a strong foundation in the fundamental principles and clinical applications of sonography. Students benefit from extensive hands-on training in the ultrasound lab, where they develop and strengthen their technical scanning skills while engaging in critical thinking, efficient communication, and professional practice.
Responsibilities:
Development and delivery of a portion of the curriculum, including exam item writing and proctoring
Prepare for and teach courses every semester
Develop an assessment plan to ensure course effectiveness
Mentor Touro University DMS students
Plan and conduct academic advisement sessions
Participate in the admissions process
Participate in advisory board meetings
Provide service on College and University committees
Attend and participate in departmental meetings
Participate in continuing education activities
Perform other faculty duties as appropriate and determined by the program director or dean
Contribute to new knowledge through research activities, presentations, publications, potentially obtaining grants and/or contracts, clinical trials, and other scholarly work
Provide reports and other documents as requested by program director or dean
Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred
Licensed by ARDMS, CCI, or ARRT
Registered in Abdomen, OB/Gyn, and Vascular
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer
Strong commitment to the professional development of sonography
Active participation in professional societies at the local, state, and/or national levels, including SDMS, AIUM, or SVU
Personal integrity
Teaching experience preferred
Research experience, or interest, preferred
